NEW! 1940 Royal Dutch Army, 5th Division medal for completing one of the day marches. Significant is fact that Germany invaded The Netherlands in 1940 and put an end to any military marches. So this may well been one of the last military marches done until the War was over. Beautifully designed, profiled bust of a soldier sounding horn. Oak tree and windmill in background. Reverse inscribed: 'Marsch prestatie tocht V. Div. Voorjaar 1940'. Ribbon appears to be original, complete with small locking pin fastener. Obvious wear to ribbon, medal with dark spots but still reasonable. Most interesting for WW2 or Dutch marching medals collectors. 25mm dia. Item #Ne-20. (115)

1832 Siege of Citadel of Antwerp commemorative medal. Also known as The Citadel Medal. Bit of history here. During the 1830 Belgian War of Independence, the city of Antwerp was captured by Belgian insurgents. However, the Citadel continued to be held by the Dutch garrison under General Chassé. Much damage was inflicted to city due to periodic bombardment by the defenders. Amazingly, the old general held out for more than a year. Finally, aided by the Royal Navy, the French began a close siege of the Citadel in November of 1832. By the end of December, Chassé had to give it up. He surrendered with the honours of War, and was later promoted to General of Infantry. Medal was approved in 1833. All taking part in defence of the Citadel were eligible (officers and soldiers). All things considered, this medal is quite rare indeed. Darkened bronze medal of 30mm in diameter. 3mm thick. Obverse of Citadel's outline, inscribed: 'Citadel Van Antwerpen'. Maker/designer's name in relief to bottom obverse: 'I.P. Schouberg F.'. Reverse inscribed: December 1832, royal crown/cipher atop with laurel wreath surrounding all. Ball suspension. Original ring. Silk moire ribbon is proper and shows age and considerable wear - however it is hard to distinguish if original (it does appear so). Great piece for Dutch medal collector. Rarely up for sale. Condition overall is good and better. Some minor wear marks. Majority of original lacquer remains. Exciting medal. Item # Ne. 16 *SOLD*
